Of Things Unseen
This series’ first layer is photos of marine fossils taken at the Smithsonian. Layers of encaustic then encased those historic references. The heating and cooling involved in applying the hot wax parallels that of the planet's under-the-surface crust. Other layers, added and scraped away, create new stories, and mimic how we humans mark-up the earth's surface.
