Shimmer of Possibility

Larvaceans are another unsung ocean hero. The series conveys the sense of these tiny, delicate sea creatures. As they feed on dead plants and animals on the ocean’s surface, their food inevitably includes micro plastic particles. As their digestive remains fall to the sea floor, other sea creatures along the water column are spared eating that microplastic. This inspired one researcher to fantasize about creating a gigantic plastic-eating vacuum cleaner that could move along the sea floor and remove all the remains.
