An Ocean Divided

Imprints in the left scroll are fishing gear found during artist residencies in Venice along canals, in Puglia, Italy, along beaches and on Cape Cod. While this scroll was made a few years ago, the situation has yet to improve. The Nature Conservancy estimates that, each year, 100 million pounds of plastic gear, equivalent to 285 blue whales, are left on the sea floor.

The right scroll celebrates the migratory laborers described in the preceding series, the siphonophores. The cleaner we keep our oceans, the better the siphonophores can do their job.
