People Power: What YOU Can Do
What makes people change? My project, People Power: What YOU Can Do, focuses on positively changing someone’s behavior to combat climate change. While it is vital that each of us acts, it is hard to feel that what we do as individuals can make much, if any, difference. This project is designed as a reminder that in groups we are more powerful, and in groups, we can create lasting positive changes to our planet. I used encaustic, made from beeswax and tree resin, and reused and recycled materials, to make this piece as sustainable as possible. Each circle in this project shows a community, and each person is represented with a nail. The crisscrossing strings are the individual relationships that connect these communities together. One person cannot be expected to save the planet alone, but together, it is our responsibility to.
People Power: What YOU Can Do was shown at the Grimshaw-Gudewicz Gallery at Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA in the summer of 2023. It was part of the lager exhibition, Because it Matters, featuring the Elemental Artists’ Collective. These photos are from that exhibition.
